Wrapping up the project (PLAY Pilots – Week 24)
(This is our second weekpost in English. If you're new to PLAY Pilots you may want to read this post first.)
The past weekend saw the successful launch of the third PLAY Pilots live game, Bandjesland (Tape Land), at music festival Le Guess Who?, Utrecht. In a full house in Tivoli Oudegracht, music fans found their way to Bandjesland in droves, to the point where the intimate and psychedelically colored party in the backstage catacombs rivaled (well, almost) the main hall as the place to be.The creative atmosphere of Bandjesland proved infectious, with many spontaneous mixtape collaborations between visitors. In all, over the course of two nights more than 1000 samples were recorded, adding up to some eight hours of music! For everyone who participated or wants to hear what Bandjesland sounded like, we have just released all mixtape sessions on the site. And for a visual impression, here are some photos from Saturday night (thanks Kars). Sadly, this wraps up the PLAY Pilots project for 2010. We started 24 weeks ago with three festivals marked as circles on a whiteboard, with a connecting line between them. That's all we knew about the project, that it would consist of three live games and a connecting online metagame. Since then, thanks to inspiring collaborations with Fourcelabs, Zesbaans and Monobanda, three exciting live games and an online dueling game were launched and enthusiastically played by an eclectic audience of music, film and game fans.We would like to thank the festival organizers of Stekker Fest, Nederlands Film Festival and Le Guess Who?, as well as the City and Province of Utrecht for their confidence and support in making PLAY Pilots possible. Hubbub says "Mission accomplished!" Of course we're already exploring ideas for further developing the online and live games, and we hope to be able to announce follow-up activities in the near future. So keep an eye on this blog (RSS) or follow us on Twitter (@playpilots). Over and out.
